I think it really does not matter what is the PhD in. PhDs in all fields learn something special which is to learn quickly and solve problems.

Having a STEM PhD would give one an edge given the specific knowledge in a specific field of engineering and science, however a real PhD learns to adapt, learn and answer difficult questions no matter what the area.
